Hobbies in Steam

Here in Anacortes, WA. A gentleman named Tom built a railroad. Through the courtesy of his wife, Annie, I obtained these photos of Tom's hobby.

Tom hand built an entire railroad, including the engine, cars, and tracks. And stations. Tom's railroad ran through the downtown area of Anacortes for eight years, on the tracks that Tom built. Annie sold tickets, in period dress. Tom, (who always wanted to be a conductor) punched each and every ticket. There were plans to extend the line out to the ferry dock, when Tom passed away. There the steam tour would continue in steam powered boats, also built by Tom. While he was alive, Tom donated the entire railroad, his time and labor, to the City. The City has been unable to decide what to do, on its own, since then. The train is in storage. I believe there might be negotiations afoot for other cities to obtain this local treasure. It would be a terrible shame and waste of time and energy to see this wonderful tourist attraction go to some other northwest city. Leaving it's tracks, as it were, here in Anacortes.
